Surf Life Saver Profile of the Week - 4
Published: November 03, 2022 Last Updated: November 04, 2022
Welcome Chris and thanks for sharing with us
So let’s get deep and meaningful straight up
Q – How long have you been in Coolum Surf Life Saving Club and what motivated you to volunteer your time?
Joined Coolum in 1998 but have been in SLSA since 1975 as a nipper. Started at Triggs WA, 18 years at Grange in SA and then to Coolum. Have a love for the ocean and surf and enjoy being part of a community organisation that provides a safe environment for others. What else would I do with me weekends anyway!?!
Q – Is your experience so far what you thought it would be?
It is. Being involved in Surf Lifesaving culture provides way more to me and my family than I provide to it. The list of benefits is endless.
On a lighter side
Q - Where did you grow up? (assuming you have grown up)
Perth for 10 years
Adelaide for 18 years
Sunshine Coast for the last 24 years.
Q - What’s the best job you have ever had?
Driving an IRB through the streets of Brisbane during 2011 floods. Was really surreal experience and very rewarding as a bonus.
Q – Any hobbies
Surfing, Mountain bike riding, running, gardening, parenting - occasionally
Q - Favourite Music/Band/musical
Love music but not fanatical about any one genre. It’s all great.
Q – Can you cook and what’s your favourite dish to prepare?
My kids say no, but they don’t look like they have starved as children.
Favourite Dish is toast with peanut butter and creamed honey
Q – Any nicknames?
As a kid, Atko. As an adult – not really but sometimes Chriso. As a parent, Hey Cook, what’s for dinner?
Q – Final & Life defining Question…. Pineapple on Pizza, Yes or No??
Yes, of course
Great story, thanks for sharing Chris

Support Coolum Surf Club
Not ready to become part of Coolum Surf Club but still want to help?
It takes a lot of money to run a surf lifesaving club; from the equipment needed on the beach (vehicles, boards, IRBs, first aid kits, defibrillators etc) to administration and training to facilitate patrolling.
So if you can't join us, support us through one of the following options.
Coolum Beach SLSC Nippers
Does your child want to become a Nipper?
Looking for a fun summer sport where your kids will learn essential surf safety skills, gain confidence in the ocean, and meet new friends?
Coolum Nippers is the answer! Nippers run from the September school holidays to February/March and is open to kids from 5 to 12 yrs.
Not only will they learn surf safety and what surf lifesaving is all about, but also have the opportunity to compete in carnivals and have mid-week training to improve their skills.
