Hello Nippers & friends, Well. That’s it. All over bar the shouting. Sunday was our last day on the beach for the Summer of 2016/17. All that is left to do is to award some trophies and celebrate a super fun season. I do not want to go all Donald Trump on ya’all but, it must have been the biggest, best, most popular Nippers program of all time. Ever.
On Sunday one of the activities the Nippers had to complete as part of their Race around the Beach was to tell us their funniest moment this season. Here is what they said:
- Tipped water on age manager, seeing the water being tipped on the age managers, tip water on age manager, when we tipped water on people, tipped bucket on age manager, when Mick Sell poured water on the age managers LOL, Norbert getting poured with water, (there were quite a few more along these lines, clearly a popular activity we should do more often).
- A shovel-nosed shark
- Emma Rahui freaking out at the shark nets
- Someone face planting
- Pooped on by a seagull
- A lot of people tripping on the sand banks
- Man falling off surfboard
- Lyla falling off the board
- Water safety got pushed in the water
- Seeing broccoli on the beach
- James getting smashed on boards
- Getting dumped falling in a hole
- A mum got soaked at Christmas family day
- People failing
- Levi had a bucket of water tipped on his head
- When my friend Avery was in the water
- Asking if they had a monobrow
- Santa in his helicopter
- Throwing Jellyfish at people
- Santa Came
- Every Day
- Cooper D catching a wave backwards
- Cooper's age manager Andy running around like crazy
- When we came down but no one was here
- We were playing dead rock (? Anyone know what that is?) and a big wave came in and my friend was holding my leg
- Banged heads in flags
- In flags someone somersaulted and fell down, (then got back up)
- Me being smashed
- Fish jumping out of a wave
- Tricking water safety with wrong hand signals
There were a couple of others, but the editor says no.
I want to take this opportunity to once again thank all of our volunteers, without whom Coolum Nippers would not be the best Nippers on the planet, the universe even if you want the honest truth. Thank you, Age Managers. Thank you, Water Safety. Thank you, Coaches. Thank you, BBQ Gurus. Thank you, Carnival Managers and Officials. Thank you, Photographers. Thank you, Committee. Thank you, parents & carers.
2017/18 Season – expressions of interest
We are calling for expressions of interest from parents/carers to volunteer for positions for next summer. Many of our existing volunteers started with no previous experience at being age managers or water safety. Some of us had never been involved in nippers before. But the training is super useful and the team here are so amazingly inclusive, making getting involved really easy.
So what positions are available I hear you ask. Here is where you can contribute:
- As a Committee member: Help shape what Coolum Nippers stands for.
- As an Age manager: Help energise your kids on the beach. Training provided.
- As a Coach: Do you have board, swim or beach skills you can pass on?
- As Water safety: Do you look good in Orange?
- As officials: Help us keep track of results at age championships and carnivals we attend.
- As an official photographer: let's get some great images out there.
- As Carnival organisers: help organise the team for carnivals.
- As a BBQ guru: Meet everyone, raise money for the club.
We will be holding our AGM on Wednesday 29 March at 6.30pm. This is where a new nippers committee is appointed. Other roles can be filled later but if you do harbour ambition to be part of the nippers committee now is the time to be thinking about it.
There will be a nomination box at the presentation on Sunday plus as well at the AGM on Wednesday.
