Hello Nippers & friends, Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No. It’s Santa. In a helicopter.
Christmas came early for the Coolum Nippers on Sunday. First off Nippers and their old folk duked it out on the tug of war rope. Congratulations to the U9’s for their victory against all comers. Under 13’s and a select bunch of assistants (ie everyone they could get on the rope) could not budge the super 9’s (the 13’s will, of course, say they let the 9’s win. Rubbish. I was there and saw the whole thing).
Then the Nippers had a chance to dump it on their age managers, with the sponge bucket race. The age managers were well soaked by the end – as was, well, pretty much anyone within reach of a Nipper with a bucket.
Then a wee bit of sprinting. The Oldies race was a particular highlight. Great to see the competitive spirit does not die even though the body may not be quite as willing as it once was.
And then came the belly popper. Santa was transported to us in Tickle park by the fine folk as Surf Rescue. Santa then doled out lolly bags (nothing better on a Sunday morning than Nippers full of sugary goodness) and the Nippers received their brand new red & white Coolum Nippers T-shirts. They were clearly a hit because I saw plenty of them around town during the day.
Folks – it has been a fabulous first half of the Nipper season. Have a wonderful Christmas Holidays and we will see you back on the beach on 15 January, refreshed and energized and ready to go bananas.
Nipper of the Week
Congratulations to the Nippers of the Week for Sunday 4 December:
- U6&7: Tallow C & Levi S
- U8: Kyte B & Evie S
- U9: Lee B & Maddison M
- U10: Tallulah F & Bailey W
- U11: Ryder B & Tai C
- U12: Anya B & Zac A
- U13: Oliver S & Baxter S
Remember – Nipper of the week is not a fastest on the beach award. It is an award for the nipper who shows the true spirit of a lifesaver. Courage, Commitment, Teamwork and care for their fellow nippers. We see a lot of nippers demonstrating these characteristics each and every week.
Thanks to the volunteers
Nippers does not happen without the support of the army of people who volunteer their time to help out. I want to thank all of you for your time, your energy and your all-round coolness. Thank you to the Age Managers, water safety, coaches, officials, photographers, BBQ organisers, uniform sellers, committee and parents & carers who help us out. We have a great club and a really fun Nipper program and it is because of you.
On Sunday afternoon we were able to show our appreciation to some of our volunteers. Thanks to Telstra we scored 30 tickets to watch Brisbane Roar v Adelaide United at Lang Park (Suncorp Stadium). So we packed up the Coolum buses with some of our longstanding and dedicated volunteers and their Nippers and made an afternoon of it. It was awesome, awesome fun and Mick Sell even got to show off his new Coolum Nippers T-Shirt on the big screen at the ground. Oh and the Roar won 4 nil, ending a long streak of draws thanks to the very vocal support of the Coolum Nippers (you know who you are Charlie, Ella & Tessa.)
Nippers on Sunday 15 January 2016
Plenty of advanced notice for you fine folk with Nippers in the Under 9’s, you are on beach set up and BBQ right out of the blocks. Please be there early to help James, Andy, and Alex with the setup and be there at the end to help Chrissie with the BBQ.
Carnival update
Nippers, keep those skills and fitness going over the break because right out of the blocks next year, on 21 & 22 January, is Sunshine Coast Branch championships for U14’s & 15s. The weekend after the U11 – 13’s go at it. From branch championships the Nippers have a chance to represent Coolum at the state titles, and that is so cool.
Nippers training during the Christmas Holidays
Keep an eye on the SMS and on next week’s Nipper Weekly News for details about training during the break.
Feedback welcome
If you have suggestions on how we can improve, or you noticed a nipper, age manager or water safety do something awesome we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to me or any of the Nippers committee (Tracey Jackson, Emma Rahui, Erica Skuja, Sheri Ambler & James Blackmore) or send me an email at Nippers@coolumsurfclub.com.au.
See you on the beach.
