The Coolum Nippers committee is stoked to announce that the Ocean Coach for the 2018/2019 season is …. RHYS BURROWS!
For those of you who haven’t met Rhys yet, he is a surf lifesaving champion and professional lifeguard with a long list of awards to his name, including:
- 5 x Paddleboard World Championship Gold Medallist
- 2 x Summer of Surf Board Series Champion
- 2 x QLD State Board Champion
- 6 x QLD State Endurance Board Champion
He is a full-time lifeguard at Marcoola, responsible for R&D at Crossbow Paddleboards, and an Ocean6 athlete! And in his spare time, he’ll be our coach – woohoo!
Training with Rhys
Rhys started with the first session in coolish conditions this Wednesday just gone. He will be coaching sessions this Friday at 4 pm, Sunday at 9 am and next Wed at 6 am. He is then off to Japan to race in the Japanese National championship and will commence regular training sessions on Monday mornings at 6 am and Friday afternoons at 4 pm, commencing 22 October.
Club favorite Ben Campbell will coach alongside Rhys and will continue to run Wednesday morning sessions. How lucky are the Coolum Nippers to have so many great coaches supporting them this season!
