Sunday morning Club Swim return to Coolum Beach
Coolum Surf Life Saving Club members’ “Club Swim” to be held at 7:15am 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month commencing Sunday 24th September until the end
of the patrolling season.
The course will be follow the same format as skills assessment run-swim-run of 100m run, 200m swim and 100m run
The format of the club swim will be a handicapped race with points being award as below throughout the season. The finishing place will dictate the handicap in seconds, you receive for the next swim.
Encouragement for members to work on their surf swim skills in a safe and supportive environment throughout the season. It is envisioned that this will assist members in preparing for the annual skills assessment and maintaining their skills
This will be a good way to introduce members to surf sports competition throughout the season in a non-intimidating environment
Increased opportunity for members to get together in a different setting to the usual member functions
Entry into Club Swim
Registration will occur at the club at 7am on the 2nd & 4th Sunday of each month starting on the 24th of September 2017. Meeting at the “Top of the ramp”, you will be required to provide your name and will be given a timed handicap, which dictates what time you begin to swim. The swim will commence around 7:15am (depending on numbers)
Members must hold either a Surf Rescue Certificate (“SRC”) or Bronze Medallion (“Bronze”) qualification and be proficient.
Each participant must supply and wear a pink high vis singlet.
The club swim will be conducted when the beach is open for swimming. This indicates that the environment is appropriate for the swim to take place and that water safety provisions can be provided, per the policy, by a patrol or additional water safety as required or at the Club/ Vice Club Captain discretion.
The club swim will require a number of water safety people – SRC or Bronze accredited. The Patrol Captain on the day of the Swim will be asked to provide Water Safety if they have surplus resources on the beach.
The ability of Coolum Surf Life Saving Club to provide water based training sessions is largely dependent on the availability of water safety personnel. The club adheres to the Water Safety policy stipulated by SLS Australia.
