It is with much sadness that Coolum Beach Surf Lifesaving advises of the passing of Life Member Peter Lambert on 28 May 2019. Born in Sydney 12 June 1926 Peter learned to swim at a young age in the Manly pool and surf. Peter and his family moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1940 living at Buderim and joining the Mooloolaba Surf Lifesaving Club in 1943.
As a strong swimmer, Peter competed in the belt race winning the North Coast Championships only to be later disqualified because the linesman removed seaweed from the line. Peter was a highly regarded architect who designed the iconic 1962 “shark tower” Coolum Beach clubhouse which became a much loved Sunshine Coast landmark until it was replaced in 1985.
Retiring to Coolum Terrace in the 1980s Peter was a foundation member of the famous 79’ers early morning swimmers along with Cole King and Ron Hooper.
The club offers their sincere condolences to Peter’s family. Peter will be sadly missed by club members and all who knew Peter are welcome to attend a memorial service to be held in the Large Function Room at the Coolum Beach Surf Club on 22 June from 11am.
