Last Saturday was the last round of the Ocean Roar IRB Racing series and saw our mighty RedDucks travel to Kirra Beach to have a final hit out before heading into the IRB State Titles next weekend. Despite a few members being unavailable to compete, the team put on one of their best sets of results for the series. For the first time in the team’s recent history, at least one Coolum team made it to every one of the 4 masters grand finals.
Big congrats to Fred, Andrew and Caleb for making their Grand Final in the Tube rescue but sadly due to time constraints, was not raced so leaves the result to be determined at States. Two Masters teams made it to both Mass and Surf Rescue finals with Fred & Mark with Caleb & Alastair, along with Shane & Frank with Faith & Jessica, finishing 4th and 6th respectively in the Mass Rescue. Shane & Frank with Faith and Fred & Mark with Caleb finished 3rd and 6th in the Surf Rescue respectively.
The Masters Team of Fred, Mark, Shane and Frank with Caleb and Faith capped off a great set of results by coming 2nd in the Teams Rescue grand finale.
Thanks to Alastair for continuing to support the team as a patient and handler due to his crewy Jason being unable to compete. Mitch and Andrew continued to improve with their Open event results as did Caleb and Dan in the under 23s who each week show that they will be a force to reckon with in the not too distant future.
Congrats to Mudjimba who won a new motor at the Series Presentation night and thanks for their assistance with handling and patient moving. Coolum was placed as the second highest Sunshine Coast IRB Team in Ocean Roar Series points behind Alexander Headland which was a massive effort considering we didn’t have a female team competing for this season (but are building on one or two for next season)
With top 10 finishes in a field of 18 :- 6th position in Round 5 and 8th position for the entire series, Coolum are looking great for the State and Aussie Titles.
Go the Red Caps!
