Coolum took two surf boat crews to the Kurrawa at the weekend and came away with some sensational results.
The Coolum Chums
Sophie Gruhl, Rachel Reisner, Erin Smith and Phoebe Child -- continued their domination of their division with three wins from three starts which should secure their spot in the Queensland team. This first year crew has won every carnival so far that they have competed in and are a real credit to our club.
The Coolum Jetts
In the under 19 men, -- Alistair Waters, Tom Kibble, Lachlan Philips and Michael Griffiths – were told by officials it was too big for the Under 19 crews to go out so on Saturday they rowed in Reserve grade men as an Under 19 crews and won that division with two wins and a second.
On Sunday, the Coolum Jetts backed up for the Australian selection trials rowing up again in the under 23 men’s division. The rowed against the top Under 23 men’s crews in Australia even though they are a first year Under 19 crew. The boys won the points after three rounds to finish on top of the ladder with two wins and a second and just missed out on Australian team selection finishing second to North Cronulla. A sensational effort by these guys!!!
Their regular sweep, Pat McGuire, is recovering from a knee injury suffered at the Coolum carnival and Coolum Beach old boy Dave Tomba stepped in to assist and did a terrific job in big surf.
Coolum expects that both the Under 19 men and the Reserve Grade women will make the Queensland team this season.
