As the club captain I’d like to say how proud I am of our club as a whole, after a call came in last night at approximately 6:30pm.
The call was from a member of the public up on Point Perry, who was concerned about a surfer who had lost his board and had been struggling for sometime to get back to shore in the fading light. The quick actions of our reception staff who, located one of our active patrol captains (PC) that happened to be dining with his wife at the time. The PC alerted a couple our cadets and their father (all bronze medallion holders) who were having a gathering downstairs. The swift instinctive reaction of the cadets to grab rescue boards and paddle out to the surfer was just amazing, if not heroic as the daylight was fading quickly! Meanwhile the calm head of the PC Wayne, had got our jet ski on the beach ready to launch if needed. Within minutes of my arrival our cadets had helped the surfer reach a sand bank were he was able to walk out of the water safely. What an excellent result! A near tragedy avoided as finding anyone in the surf at night is near impossible!
Thank you to the Coolum Beach Supporters Club staff for their swift actions, Wayne P (our PC) , Bobby L and our cadets Nirvana L, Sherise K, Piper D and Cooper W (all bronze medallion holders) for their brave efforts!
Great team work guys!
One very proud Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club Captain, Frank L
